I suddenly feel renewed optimism about being good enough to play on stage .....

What's Hot

Having just caught a video of actor Steven Seagal playing. I figure I'm at least this good!

I did laugh at this comment:  Have you got the tab for this? I've worked out the first note but can't get my fingers around the other two.

Presumably no-one told him that playing guitar live isn't something you can just bluff as long as your hands move in roughly the right way, like you do in the movies...

I haven't watched the clip but he usually hires top notch bands so the overall experience is probably okay, I get the impression he's as much the compere as musician. He does own a pretty impressive guitar collection including ex Albert King and SRV instruments; puts his money where his mouth is I guess.

The first 5 second were promising and then. . .

There must be some medicine involved there. Would people have paid for this?

Hey, he was on stage enjoying himself.  Even if thats the extent of what he can do, if he likes it, and people are willing to watch, so be it.

You are absolutely right of course. I was just a bit shocked that that was the level that he was on, eg south of Lil Wayne. Kudos to him for getting on stage though, I never have and I'm pretty sure I never will ....

  • Well if you are a five piece you only have to impress an audience of one.

I knew I was good enough to perform after seeing RHCP - well actually their support act, Chicks on Speed, who were without doubt the worst and least talented bunch of oxygen wasters I've ever had the misfortune to listen to.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Yep me too he seemed to play some notes that vaguely went with the tune and didn't screw up.  He's several rungs above me on the ladder.

We went away at the weekend and stayed in a very nice forest lodge on a holiday site. On Friday evening our six year old was desperate to see the entertainment on offer so we wandered over and popped our heads in.

On stage was a very confident, delightfully presented larger than life lady doing a C&W set with an acoustic guitar.

Her voice was certainly loud but not unpleasant and she was knocking the absolute crap out of a dreadnought playing open chords. Everyone seems to be thoroughly enjoying it though.

I did consider that my strumming was actually pretty good in comparison even if I'd never have the confidence she had to get up on stage and play.

Hats off for having a go I say.
