    See @Kittyfrisk post above

Sorry my friend but I don't understand your reply.

Other songs  that are about death or dying:

"The green green grass of home"

"Sunday morning comin' down", A song about a hangover that feels like dying
The Mercy Seat is a Nick Cave song

Allegedly 'Meet On The Ledge' by Fairport was, according to Richard Thompson, not about death.  But many, including myself, have always chosen to interpret it that way.  A popular send-off.  Greta Van Fleet do a cracking cover of it too.  the version of 'Carrickfergus' by Van and the Chieftains always chokes me up as well.

I loved that when I was a boy. I still like it, although it sounds a bit contrived now.

I think I must have been an odd child - the first 'pop' record I ever really liked was Bowie's Space Oddity, I must have been about five I think, and I remember my mum being a bit worried because I asked her whether she thought Major Tom dies at the end.

And on the subject of Bowie... Rock 'n' Roll Suicide.

I can remember listening to Hunky Dory on my Walkman at primary school when most of my friends didn't really have much interest in music.

Mention of Leonard Cohen reminds me of "Dress Rehearsal Rag", a pretty bleak piece.

Also, if you want something more abstract, Hammock’s “Departure Songs” is themed around death and transcendence. Lots of instrumentals but a few with lyrics and you can surely hear what they’re getting at. A masterpiece of a post rock record IMO either way.
I love Departure Songs, however think Mysterium is even better. It's basically a requiem for Marc Byrd's nephew and is both beautiful and melancholic. Best not to listen to it if you're feeling at all fragile...

  • I just don't have the right psychological make-up for this  - a lot of songs on here that I think are good to great, but I would tend to avoid listening to them.
