NGD: Japanese Goodness

What's Hot

Following the sale of my Suhr Alt T I wanted to get something a bit more traditional semi 335 ish.

Not adverse to taking a risk or too on a NGD I punted for this FGN Masterfield.

One reason it appealed is I think it’s one of the most balanced and “right” looking Semis around - smaller than a 335, bigger than a 339 - still feels like your holding a semi but much more manageable than a 335 and this one weighs under 7lbs so really light too.Goldilocks!

Anyway won’t bore you with too much more, but chunky neck, beautiful build (those fret and fingerboard ends!) and very toneful, early days but I think this one paid off!

Me too, I’ve got previous with an Odyssey Standard which is very impressive for the price so thought they could do some real good at a higher price point. Have to stop
    myself looking at Lliads now!

Looks lovely. I had a tokai es130 which was lovely, but I always found it slightly too big and delicate. I also think the 339 bodyshape is a bit too small, that fgn looks like the perfect compromise.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

Ibanez AS models are also somewhere between a 335 and a 339.

Very nice, I think that's the FGN model I've played quite a bit and they're great guitars.

bought from Reverb through a German retailer - no issues and the second FGN I’ve bought this way as no real stock in the UK.

Aren’t these the same guitars that were the Epiphone Elitist series? I’m sure I read somewhere that Fujigen had built them.

    Looks lovely BTW.

Entirely possible that the Elitists were built by FujiGen but their own FGN branded guitars are their own take on things. This is constructed slightly differently to a Gibson Semi - the sides and centre block is carved out of a piece of mahogany as below pic and the top and back are maple, not sure if laminate or 1 piece but I can see the same flame on the inside - plus the 15” lower bout width - has more in common with a Collings i35 than a 335 on some respects.
