What was your go to album or song when you heard that EVH had died?

What's Hot

I kind of surprised myself in that I wanted to hear the 5150 album, and in particular Why can't this be love. I really like the Hagar era, I play those albums a lot more that the Roth ones, although both versions of the band were superb. I saw them live on the 5150 tour so maybe that has an influence on my tastes.

I'm guessing that many people went for Eruption or Hot for Teacher, both of which I listened to next!

I also went for ‘Why can’t this be love’. Then on to Hot for teacher and VH1.
My girlfriend of the time (and the current Mrs G) bought me the 12 inch of WCTBL for my 16th birthday. It’s got a real nice riff thing going on in the middle that the single version doesn’t have.
It was the first song that came into my head when I heard the news.
As much as I love his lead work, his rhythm chops are even better.
The Hagar line up is also the one I saw live a few times.

  • For some reason Diver Down . Nowhere near their best but it was upbeat enough to lift the mood a bit

  • 1984 and F**K were the go-too albums for me.

Then I just went through all the albums I have in order in the car over for the next few journeys.

    Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love

    Eddie's greatest riff.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

    Go to song was Unchained.

The songs I'm appreciating more than previously are Jamie's Cryin, DOA and Drop Dead Legs. Such amazing rhythm playing.

I reached for the first album but the song I have listened to most is Hot For Teacher, it's just ridiculously good.

It would have been F**K for me as an album as that one resonates the most with me, but instead I went to youtube and watched the whole of Live Without a Net which I remember being in absolute awe of as a youth. Love the 5150 album which is mostly what's in the show, prefer F**K but loved watching the chemistry of them on stage.

  • I was just in last 10 minutes of my Radio Country show when news came in.
I actually said, I am sorry but I will be closing the show tonight with Van Halen and Ice Cream man.
Even though it was a country music show, I did not have any complaints only well done, and thank you for playing a tribute to EVH.

I listened to the Gene Simmons 'Zero' demos, and the original version of 'house of pain' blew my mind all over again.
