SALE PENDING: PRS Original Signature series from 1990.

The original Signature Series was the first “ultimate quality” PRS offered by the company and was basically a Custom 24 but with ultimate quality woods and signed by the man himself. The run stopped at 1000, I understand because getting Paul to sign the headstocks was a real PITA as his jet-setting lifestyle took off – far easier to get him to sign a bunch of plastic control cover plates that could then be put on any PRS…

I used to be crazy about PRS and have had around 10 of them, including a 1987 vintage yellow, original BRW neck McCarthy run, a BRW neck 514, seafoam DGT, an EG, 1990 CU24…you get the idea. This has been the only one I held onto as it smoked the rest tonally. It’s a superb rock guitar and extremely versatile. I bought it in the USA around 28 years ago and it has rarely left the house. It’s in pretty good nick for a guitar that is 30 years old and has an amazing tight flame top (far better than I can capture on camera) and very dark Brazilian board. Little fretwear. Wide-thin neck profile. There’s a ding near the strap button, but that’s it for damage. Meant to get it fixed for the last 20+ years but couldn’t be arsed. I have the original tone and volume knobs in the case, which were prone to cracking, and the knobs on the guitar itself are replacements. Unbroken solder etc. Original case and all hangtags etc.

These days I play nylon 95% of the time and this is just gathering dust. A house move is forcing me to sell stuff I don’t use. This is obviously a bit of a holy grail PRS and appealing to players and collectors I guess. I’ve priced it at £3995, which is less than a third of a new Private Stock Paul 85 etc. etc. I can show this in London or St. Albans. Given that he board is BRW, I can’t ship this out of the UK. Sorry.
