@ICBM for a guy who looked very little like the quintessential rock star, he was remarkably photogenic.
Yes. It's the expression on his face in that one in particular - totally lost in the moment, somewhere in a place of pure peace that the music has taken him despite the huge volume he was playing at. You can almost hear the sustain just looking at it...

It's the perfect rock star guitar too - the most iconic shape of all, stripped down to nothing more than what he needs, and a curly cable.
Think that pic is from the '73 tour I caught him on. A big guy in every sense.

A fine musician, but for some reason I thought he had already passed away some time ago.

The Weekend World theme tune (Nantucket Sleighride) I didn’t know what it was for years.... Watched it as a kid just for the music initially but Brian Walden was brilliant and got me interested in politics.

     :(
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

  • Saw him at the Knebworth '85 Purple reunion as a mid teen - the memory will always be there.

    RIP.

Newcastle city hall Nov 1988 - night of the guitars - some great names but LW had the biggest sound of all.

The Grauniad only got around to publishing an obituary on December 29th. :s

I'm not sure whether the BBC has done anything at all yet. The only musician obit I could find on the day was for Chad Stuart.

    ¿Exactly?!
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.
