What budget multiFX unit?

What's Hot
ewalewal Frets: 2582
Sorry I'm a bit out the loop effects wise as I haven't really had any urge to buy since lockdown curtailed activities last year. However we are now battening down the hatches for Lockdown2021 chez moi, and as the room where all my gear resides has been turned in to my daughter's bedroom (while she lockdown's with us), I'd like to buy something cheap, portable and cheerful to use in the kitchen.

I'm looking for cheap, includes basic amp modelling, and useable with headphones or possibly built in audio interface. I enjoyed the first Zoom G3 back in the day, so might consider the latest version of this - what else is worth checking out in the say sub £200 price bracket?

    :)

But my favourite one doesn't contain amp modelling :(.

The GT-1 does though, and has USB.

Would you mind buying used? If so the Boss GT100 or line6 hd500 or the old but still decent xt live multi fx are great and within budget

If youre happy with headphones only, the Nux Mighty Plug looks a pretty decent lockdown companion.
Its just finding one in stock anywhere....

Don't mind going second hand as long as something is available now so I don't have to waste time trawling the usual sites.

I didn't like the Mooer at all.

Zoom is decent. Boss is good but the modelling is a bit weak.

Nux is a good shout though limited.

Pod is a real cut above if you can stretch.

Pod HD Bean? Old tech and amp modelling has come a long way. But still some decent models, and all the effects sound great. Think you can get one for about £80

Think I've ruled out Zoom g3n because no audio interface.

Disappointed to here Mooer disappointment - the GE150 seems like a good fit.

    Will check out other suggestions.

Can't sleep... Thinking I might sell a couple of things and go HX Stomp. I used to have an HX FX and rated it highly.

HX Stomp users - do you find just 3 footswitches limiting?

    Personally yes.

I play in a covers band and like to use several patches.

Snapshots are great and I could live with them except that when you are in snapshot mode changing to other patches is a pain.

It can be done, but involves stepping on 2 footswitches simultaneously. I've only used it at rehearsal but found myself fat footing it and ending up on the wrong patch. It's then a nightmare to figure out what happend and sort it.

I wouldn't want to be doing that at a gig so have a midi board on the way to give me more control.

You can have 2 external footswitches which would help but I wanted to use an expression pedal and you can't have both.

Love the unit but yes, I do find 3 footswitches limiting.

Sold my Helix LT last week, love Native and the sounds, LT was just too big for my needs. Quibbled about the Stomp versus the Go, and settled on the Go. I don't need big complex effects chain. A straight grab and go option. Ordered from Sound Affects yesterday at 10am, it's just arrived with me now.

Considering my pedal habits, last year I bought one pedal (LT). Really did cover every pedal need. This year with the GO, maybe pedalboard time will happen again.

I've never really been much of an effects guy (my last modeller was a Behringer V-Amp, 15 + years ago!). But I treated myself to a Mooer GE200 for Christmas and I've been pleased with it so far.

I was after something portable and affordable to use for headphone practice while travelling and home recording and it fits the bill pretty well. I'm happy with the build quality and the controls are intuitive and easy to use (I hate having to fiddle with screens for ages when I just want to set up and play!). It's not going to be part of my live rig so that wasn't a concern for me.

Sound wise I suppose it's not going to match a Kemper/Helix etc, but I picked it up for just under 200 notes on Amazon and it sounds fine for what I need.

  • For $149 USD you can get the Valeton GP-100 (incredibly small and has an expression/volume/wah pedal). I suspect it sounds and operates very similar to the Hotone Audio multi unit, since both companies are affiliated in some ways. I could be wrong, as I haven't tried the Hotone unit. I did a review on the Valeton... it might be up on this site, but pm me if you need a link. I find the guitar tones fairly chewy, thick and realistic... usable tones for playing and recording. The acoustic sims sound very convincing, although more so with piezo pickups.

I've got a Nux MG-300 on order, but it has been for the last 8 weeks or so. I'm not in a major rush so happy to sit tight and wait for it to arrive. Looks good on paper for the price and is only being bought as a fun tinkering with practice pedal.
