Refretting in Hampshire

What's Hot
My 90s LPJ needs a refret - any recommendations in the Lymington area? Can courier the guitar further afield if need be.

Lee Norris in Christchurch is meant to be decent - I've no had reason to use him myself but heard he is good.

  • Hi. I used Simon Jones in Portsmouth. He did a great job on a Gordon Smith at a very reasonable price.

I've not used him for a refret however he has set up a few of my guitars in the past and they always come back so incredibly well done.

I hand him a gig worn clapped out old banger and it comes back as my dream guitar everytime

Has anyone had a bone nut cut and fitted by either Lee Norris, or Robin at Absolute?

No but I have had one done by Steve at the Guitar Centre Portsmouth and was great plus a few set ups and electronics always with great results  if he is close enough.

Definitely not ! He was the reason I have bought all tools , read this forum and watch YT to start refretting my guitars !

I had him to level frets on my guitar .

To start with , everything was done by eye . No straight edge , no truss rod adjustment made to make neck straight before leveling and the use of ancient method and tools .
He did crowning with sandpaper .
The end results was ( when I got back home and tested ) worse than it was before .
On the plus side I only paid £30-40 all in , but obviously money wasted !

Joe White is meant to be pretty good:

I played some guitars he built at a show years ago.  They seemed pretty well made.

His website says he's closed for the moment because of Covid, but if you can wait a few weeks he would be a good option.
