Why do I get stuck in some kind of redirect loop whenever I click on a Facebook link now? Not that I really care, to be honest...

    Some crackers on there!

It's full on going down like a turd in a Mars Bar wrapper.
And as they wouldn't have done this before Smith got his cash... I bet he's laughing his arse off.

He can buy it back in 6 months for $1.

Prolly a daft question but what will this mean for Gibson and Boogie endorsees?

Will there be new contract stipulations that they can't be seen playing a Fender through a Boogie or a Gibson through anything else?

I'm half expecting Gibson to try to claim they've been a famous brand pairing over the years and never mention Marshall ever again.

Nah - they are never that limited. Too many Mesa players using a massive array of instruments. No way will they say "can't use X guitar" - it will just cause the artists to leave further making the negative press even worse.

Ah, but they could incentivise a dual brand partnership, or more likely make the single brand endorsement significantly less attractive.

Glad Henry isn't still at the helm, mind.

If he was, Mesa would probably be launching the Mark X, a self-programming modelling amp that contains all the great sounds of early transistor gear and looks like a cross between a Cyber Twin and a Peavey Wiggy next month.

So a company reknown for good quality control is bought out by a company known for dodgy QC.

I mean they ruined Trace Elliott. I saw some local rock bands live footage from 2019 and people still gig those old 715 combos and AH300’s. They will last forever. I mean who buys a company to ruin it?

    This won't end well.

This could be a good thing, especially considering the good moves Gibson has been making recently.

Hopefully they sort out distribution as well so we can get cheaper amps.

Better support/service/repairs would be a good thing too.  I don't think there are that many authorised Boogie service centres in the UK?

They did that already when they binned Westside.

    They'll go up again now.

No they didn't. That's a popular myth, but in fact Trace ruined themselves with a succession of poorly-built, unreliable amps some time before Gibson bought them, especially their valve guitar amps, Commando bass amps and other similar junk. Gibson actually *saved* them, and increased the quality of several of the amps - not least the Velocettes, which became the Goldtones - although admittedly, at the same time almost doubling the price.

The really early Traces - up to Series 6 - were certainly more reliable and better-sounding, but all those are getting very long in the tooth now. Very few working musicians will be using them now - even if they still work, they weigh far too much by modern standards and so aren't worth enough to spend a lot of money fixing when (not if, usually) they go wrong.

Randall Smith is certainly looking like he's nearing retirement in that pic. He doesn't look bad for his age, but he's 75.

  • The ever knowing consumers of the music world must absolutely have their say!!! ;)

Suffice to say - having experienced very recently the purchase of my company by a larger corporation and all of the ensuing FUD spread by consumers who don't know what they're talking about .... well.... sometimes moves like this can be exceptionally rewarding for staff and IP alike. Sometimes not. But only time will tell.

The cynical bleatings and piss-take jokes are only making more knowledgeable people roll their eyes tbh.

    Bye!
