My favourite Johnny Winter playing was on the albums he did with Muddy Waters in the mid-70s . Hard Again and Im Ready. Nice counterpoint to Mud's playing.

sad loss, I played his "progressive blues experiment" lp to death, gave me the will to learn my first slide lick, aka "dust my broom" & spurred me on to own a firebird, great memories of the man, mike b.

Ah no.... But, will always remember him for that iconic cover of JJFlash on TOGWT and wondering why he opted for those bloody sleeve embellishments when all he did was try to get them out the way of his playing! He loved a Firebird though didn't he...

Very sad news 
He was a truly great blues player and was hugely influential. The "Johnny Winter And" live album was essential listening when I young guitarist.

Loved his music since hearing him on TOGWT when I was a kid. I managed to see twice in recent years which was great 'cos I never thought I would get to see him live. If you haven't heard any of his music I recommend you check him out. There is an album in the can which was slated for release on Sept 2nd let's hope it goes ahead. RIP JW.
