Kit Gotchas?

Hi guys

A while ago my wife very kindly bought me one of those Gear4Music guitar kits. 

I've *finally* got round to just about finishing the body so now I'm thinking about the rest. 

The instructions basically say "screw it together in this order" but I'm wondering if there's some things I should measure/check/set as I'm going to try and make sure I don't end up with a complete dog. The hardware is pretty cheap so I have minimal expectations but I'd like to do the best job I can. 

Any tips or things to look out for?

When I built a cheap kit about 12 years ago the neck pocket was waaayyy too tight, I physically couldn't get the neck in so have to sand the edges of the pocket down a bit. From what I gather neck fit is by far the most common problem.
