Suggest a good Rock'n'Roll compilation

What's Hot

Six year old boy likes Rock'n'Roll.

I probably know the music, but when it comes to it, I don't appear to know the song names or artists.

Can anyone suggest a good compilation CD that will hit all (or most) of the highlights?

CD would be best so he play it in his room and the car.

Thanks.

There must be thousands of playlists on Youtube. Just don't pick one with more recent versions of the classics, they rarely compare well to the originals. Yiu can then work ou which artists he prefers.

    This one's quite good...

The big problem with any of them is that you will very rarely find any Elvis on them.

In which case you also need this -

  • The supermarkets used to sell CD compilations called Petticoats and Pigtails or something. I had a few and thought them quite good.

    quite a few on amazon, there's a 3cd #1 rock'n'roll jukebox for £5.99 which seems quite cool.

I think that rock'n'roll era from a guitarist perspective tends to lean toward the Eddie Cochrans and the Chuck Berrys and the Elivis Presleys but there were a lot of fun semi novelty tracks from people like Neil Sedaka and Brenda Lee and the Big Bopper. My sister had a best of Neil Sedaka that I loved when I was younger and as a kid I learned all of the words to Chantilly Lace by the Big Bopper.

I grew up with a copy of the movie soundtrack double album “That'll Be The Day” and still love it to this day, it was never released on CD so I have recreated the tracklist in iTunes/Apple Music and added the original vinyl cover art.

Right, thanks.  I'll take a look.

He has a wee CD player in his, so I could burn a disc for him.  He likes to have his own things and streaming would just be an excuse for him to have seen time.

If you haven't got anything yet, I just came across this... I forgot I had it. Better than the one I posted above, and does contain a fair bit of Elvis.

OK, this was one I bought in the end.

Six year old boy turned seven today, so we have managed to play the first track seven times in a row...

The effect was "electrifying".  He loves it.

Thanks for all tips, you have made a small boy very happy.

He has been taking ukelele lessons for a few weeks (currently interrupted due to being back at school and holidays).  I guess I will have to find the tab for Johnny B Goode and give it a whirl on the uke.

The Chuck Berry suggestion was light-hearted. But I did love strumming along for hours once I worked out how to play the Chuck Berry boogie!
