The little guys/gals of YouTube Thread...

What's Hot
So I stumbled across this chap on YouTube and cannot believe he only has 55 subs! I know there is not much content, he is a relative new-comer, but...

We tend to get directed to all the established channels, so who do you watch that are small fish in the big pond? Maybe we can get them a few more subs ;)

I can honestly say I have learned more by watching the 80 videos or so Tom Bukovac put up in these covid times then every other video I have watched by all the big hitters over the last 5 years.

It taught me a lesson too, content is king. His videos are just him and a guitar in the garage straight into an iphone. No editing, no stupid video gimmicks of him doubling himself etc. Just raw playing. I found it very refreshing.

He caught on quick though so has about 40K subs now I think.

I got a guy via Fiverr to do a solo on a tune of mine last year and this is his channel.

  • I mentioned Let's Hear It (started a few months ago, 632 subs currently) in another thread but had only watched a few of the videos then. Have since got through most of them and they're quite variable in quality; basically they work when there's a guest you can just wind up and let go. Can recommend in particular the three featuring Jon Graboff, who's fun company:

Folkway Music only has 1500 subscribers, which I guess is because they've not made (or been able to make) much of an effort with the channel before now, but Mark Stutman has been uploading workshop videos a bit more often in the past few months and is always interesting.

Evert Zeevalkink is a 'little guy' relatively speaking (16k subs). He's mostly been churning out ambient tracks for licensing recently, but he used to make lots of looping compositions (on guitar) and has a knack for melody. He also posts some of the stuff he records with Sofia Dragt as Luminar – good work music, if that's not a backhanded compliment.

  • Probably less interesting but a quick mention for Pedal of the Day. The subscription and viewing figures are quite low and the demoes maybe not that interesting but they get through a lot of pedals. I'd love to know how it's funded. Worth a subscription as the channel covers a lot of lesser seen pedals so something might catch your eye from time to time.

  • Usual stilted interview style (in fairness doing these things remotely can be awkward) but @jamesoliver1234 might like this episode:

Those two are rather good friends I believe (hence Mary sending her the stems, I guess).

I find the lyrics a bit dodgy, "rolling" and "using" her all night long, no good for the blood pressure.

Rachel is quite easy on the eye as well, bless her.
We have to be so very careful, what we believe in...

I stumbled on this guy's channel last night and thought of this thread.  A lot of unintentional comedy which is quite endearing.

Been watching Paul for a couple of years. I like his style - although not sure buying blind from NKR guitars is recommended.

If he joined the forum I reckon he'd be buying a lot more gear lol

If you are into your Les Pauls he's done/doing a great series of vids. Comparing the new Epi to an R8...

I did wonder if he might already be a member, he'd fit right in.

But since he doesn't know much about Japanese Les Pauls or Eastman guitars - and openly admits to being a Joe Bonamassa fan - I concluded he couldn't be.   ;)
