New aluminium screening guard that fits behind the controls to get rid of any potential interference.
New 6V6 Power Valves, new phase inverter valve, new orange drop capacitors, good condition Fender speaker.

The amp sounds great now, nice and clear with a decent growl when its wound up. I'm told the tone is quite similar to the Fender Princeton but I've not heard them both side by side.

It has a Solid State Rectifier

It seems fine with pedals and it worked a treat with my old Quadraverb GT. The electrical work was undertaken by a local Audio Engineer.

I'll do my best to pack it safely for YOUR COURIER or Local Pickup is fine too and prefered

  • There's an SJB enthusiasts group on Facebook it might be worth posting this in. The last couple of Ants I've seen go on there have been more like £300. Lovely little amps though.

Thank you @suitablyswell ;;;;;  I have already spoken to the guy who runs it . . . he's a nice guy . . just not overly clued in on the origins of SJB Audio, the Amps and their Designs & variations. He had nothing other than a few Scanned Images of Magazine Reviews to offer, basically nothing more than a nice dead end . . .  . . .  I take your point about the value that some of the SJB Ants have sold for, and I too paid around £300 for mine. I then paid £130 to get it sorted and then a further £45 for new set of 6V6 Power Valves so, all in all, I think mine is more than reasonably priced.

  • Yeah, I can see you've put a lot of work into it - I hope you find a buyer for I'm sure is a beautiful sounding amp!

  • Bump for an utterly superb amp. I had an Ant which I sold last year in a moment of stupidity. If I had the coin just now I’d buy this but sadly don’t.

Mine had a Fender Princeton sound to it. Honestly, if anyone’s after a great sounding amp which can hold its own in a small club (mic’d of course) then this is your amp.
A rare piece of UK boutique amp history too.

The issue with SJBs is they were all different. I had an Ant Reverb recently using weirdo output valves putting out about 6 watts. This one is a much nicer beast and with more power.

Completely different spec means no 'going rate for an SJB' even if it's the same model. I have had many SJB Ants and they were all wildly different.

This one is rather lovely though.  Whoever buys it will be happy I'm sure.

I was fortunate with my Ant . . . it didn't have the crazy valve configuration that I'd read others had . . . The picture I saw of the valves was quite clear really  . . . I could read 12AX7 on what turned out to be the Phase Inv. Valve and 6V6 on the Power Tubes . . I just couldn't see a Valve Rectifier so assumed it didn't have one which is fine . . .

The Ant had issues, but they were more down to not knowing how the amp was originally designed so once I'd spoken to the original owner back in the 90's, it all became clear . . . The 12AX7's were too high gain and when fitted with lower gain valves, the amp really sang . . After changing out the Caps and fitting a balanced pair of 6v6's and sorting the speaker it just came alive :-)

I often change my mind about selling it . . . Im really keen on the idea of buying Keeley Hydra and running both my amps together . . . that would be heaven . . . But I just need to sell my Pod X3 first :-)

Looks really nice. Given that they are all different, how close does this particular one get to a Princeton in tone and volume?

Hmmm . . . I've never owned a Princeton so I really couldn't say . . . Sometimes I think it's similar to the Normal Channel on my 65 Deluxe Reverb but not quite as Bright ?? . . I'm not sure if that helps :-) If you lived close to me you could borrow it and try it at your place with your guitar & gear . . .
