I can picture them in the studio listening to the final mix and agreeing that there is nothing you’d want to change.

I’m a bit uncertain what qualifies a song for this but that has reminded me of The Snake by Al Wilson. It does have key changes, maybe that’s a bit fancy.

Not at all, it's Northern Soul, the essence of music, nothing complicated just something that makes you want to dance.  Marlene Shaw's "Wade in the Water" is another one - I defy anyone to keep still whilst listening to that record.

I’m very much a late comer to Northern Soul, I keep dipping into ifthisislev on YouTube, such a simple joyous thing someone dancing to old soul tunes.

It is indeed - but I remember back in the 1970's heyday it was sneered at by those who considered it very low brow, and in fact there was a certain amount of snobbery regarding music that was made to dance to - even John Peel made some snide remark about it, I recall.

But I had a mate at school who was really into it, as was my first wife, so I've grown up with it.

If you've found Lev you maybe have come across Sarah Collins and her band Keep the Faith.  I am completely addicted to Sarah's own YouTube channel, never fails to lift the spirit.
