Prompted by the responses I’ve had to a couple of videos I’ve posted I have a question. Why do I often not seem to play as well as I know I can in a live situation?
I’m pretty good at recording and even videoing myself playing. But when it comes to playing in front of an audience I’m only playing at my best maybe 5% or less of the time. It really annoys me. It’s not that I get stage fright particularly, I’m pretty experienced at playing under pressure (I’ve done festival gigs and live national radio stuff in the past where I feel I’ve played well).
Am I the only one? Is just a lack of focus? Am I just under rehearsed?
It’s not that I’m really bad in a live, I’m still competent, in time largely and in tune mostly.
I just know I’m capable of being a lot better than I am 95% of the time.
