It's a tributes sub forum not a thread. All tributes are shepherded into there.

To be honest this thread is a lot more balanced than I expected it to be.

I'm not a royalist at all, no time for the concept of monarchy etc but at the end of the day, a husband, father, grand father, great grandfather, probably some other relations also, has been lost, so my sympathies to those actually affected by the loss.

yeah they're a cargo cult, there was a wonderfully endearing documentary about a few of those guys invited to the UK to meet prince phil.

they had never seen snow before and wanted to take some back to Africa to grow it

I remember a time in the 80s when his gaffs were all over the papers and he was regularly ridiculed. Having said that, the Nation definitely warmed to him over the years and he has been seen with fondness for a long time now. I'm not a big fan of the Royals, but nor do I dislike them. The Queen though is an amazing woman and he was a great right hand man. RIP Prince Phillip.

A character - and in many ways an embodiment of a certain age in British life. No snipes from me - he lived to be almost 100 - and for that he deserves respect.

I have such a distinct memory of seeing him ( if from afar) when he visited Tipton. I've found it on google and I would have been seven, so how accurate that memory is I don't know but he did visit and did exactly the thing I remember ( opened the Tipton Sports Union, these days it is the Tipton Sports Academy).

I was going to make a joke about how gutted the Queen must be.......apparently she had a monkey on him making his 100th at 12/1..... but I realised that would be in bad taste, so I’d better just say RIP....
