But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

The one with the Black guard would look better with the White Guard and vice versa.
Only a Fool Would Say That.

There's no black and she's not naked!
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

    I have a nice 60s Telecaster.
For years I had a black scratchplate on it but last month while restringing, I replaced it with the original white one.
I really like the white scratchplate now - never used to - although as noted above, a black one gives a nice visual contrast.

But which has the better tone?

Black when it's a maple board, white when it's rosewood. Simples.

This!! But taking into account that a tele should never ever have a rosewood board of course
I just asked Wilko Johnson. He disagrees.
So does Jimmy Page, George Harrison, Rick Parfett, Jim Root, Denny Dias, Graham Coxon etc.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

I'm quite new to guitars so why do stock photos of guitars, usually electric, generally have to be taken on a farm or building site? Are those low waisted, bum crack showing builders now adding music to their wolf whistles?

  • IMO:
White suits: Teles, Strats, Gold Top LPs.
Black suits SGs, 335s and black LPs.

I removed my 335's pickguard... feels better without it...
