    1) Wes. That guy writes sublime tunes and he can play them. It sounds so easy, but it’s bloody hard.

    2) Greg Howe. His music is really quirky, spicy and spiky and he can play anything you like, really fast. His musical knowledge is like 100%. And he’s a lovely bloke.

    3) Ritchie Blackmore. Tuneful. Melodic. (which is the same thing)

    4) Vai, no comment

    5) Al di Meola, half for the rhythm, half for the melodies.

    6) EVH, half for the rhythm, half for the melodies.

    7) You know what, I’m going to go with Justin Sullivan from New Model Army for number 7. Because as well as being the best political songwriter in England, he also plays guitar quite uniquely and beautifully I think. There are loads of little tricks and knacks in his playing. He’s a natural.

Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

  • Based on the stuff I’m looking at online to listen to and try to learn a little bit of the styles of…

    Justin Derrico
    Blues Saraceno
    Steve Lukather
    Steve Stevens
    Eric Johnson
    Billy Gibbons
    Huey Morgan

Marco Sfogli BTW is bloody amazing I’m working on one of his bits from earlier in the year which I though was just wonderful in every way!

I mean, how beautiful is this? - if I could play like this - I’d be done.

I don't have time to do seven players but my tastes are firmly in the 80's  with a couple of exceptions.

    Steve Lukather
    Steve Stevens
    Nile Rodgers
    Alan Murphy
    Angus Young
    Billy Gibbons

Honourable mention to Prince but I prefer him live and improvising rather than in the studio.

I think 6 + and honourable mention counts as 7!

    Steve Vai
    SRV
    Joe Satriani
    Joe Pass
    BB King
