Tap board to add rhythm

Not sure how to word this but here goes: I wand a pedal type thing that I can tap in time to the music.  The taps can be sent to an amplifier by means of a contact microphone or something similar.  

Ideas as on how to make such a pedal appreciated or if there is a commercially made device, please point me to it.

Do you mean an electronic device or just a tub with a mic in it?
