The neck installed on it's body, apart from the volume and tone knobs all the timber is reclaimed from old pianos and likely to be at least 100 years old.
    Wow, I love that!

I've been stripping. I suspected that there might be something interesting lurking under the layers of dark French polish.

I'm hoping to use this as the front of a thinline I'm working on.

  • You could be forgiven for thinking that I only do teles but I do have a Les Paul and a Precision Bass in production too.
The body is oak at the front , poplar with veneer at the back .Those black dots are wormholes that were under the veneer of the piano and partially filled with the glue used to stick it on so they were there when the donor piano was made.
the neck and fretboard are beech, the fretboard is also from a piano but the neck is part of a bed and a relative junior comparted to most of the wood i use at a mere 20 years old.

I've run out of switches but it's all done bar the wiring.

Really, really, really looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

Don't ask me, I just play the damned thing...

  • Me too! I'm still working through a few jobs that have priority and deciding exactly how to use it to best effect. I don't want to hide it behind hardware/strings/scratchplate etc

  • Loving this! And £550 for a handmade guitar is superb value. What's the waiting list like for a Precision Bass?

It occurs to me there might be a market for you in special commissions. I'd guess there are loads of people who have inherited broken pianos or furniture that has sentimental value but no practical use, and would like to have it turned into a guitar.

I'm about to disappear for a couple of weeks but it should be about  2-3 months at the moment for any regular solid body guitar/bass at the moment.
Sadly it usually takes more than one piano to provide the different timbers and thicknesses required to make a guitar.

I've been in Yorkshire visiting my brother who is a far more accomplished guitarist than myself. I was very pleased that by the end of our stay I struggled to prize the guitar out of his hands. I'll be uploading a couple more videos to youtube over the next few days.

Like a homegrown Rick Kelly! Pleased to see the reuse of old timber.
