Quite hard to get the most out of one handed!

(Speaking as someone who actually DID sever two tendons in in index finger a couple of years back!)

    Oooh.

So can you actually play Emp or is it just for footling around with? I sometimes think I’d like a hardware synth but I know I’d just end up making random noises with it rather than actual music.

I can play.  I'm not particularly good, but I could hold my own playing basic keyboards in a band - as long as I could transpose everything to C ! lol

I want to get my keyboard skills up to the same level as my guitar playing so I can be mediocre on two instruments then !

Arghh... my video got caught by the forum 'edit it and it turns into a picture' bug !  Try the video in the OP again.....  it's a fabulous sounding instrument !

Fucking ParcelFarce.  Mrs Fab has been home all day with two dogs, a doorbell that works and a car on the drive.  I come home, and the prick has carded me.  He must have tiptoed to the door to avoid delivering my parcel.

Apparently Parcelforce issue all their couriers with slippers to muffle the sound of their footsteps.

FFS!  It eventually turned up this afternoon.  Wrapped in a double layer of regular small bubble wrap and a cardboard guitar shipping box.  The modulation/pitch bend lever has been smashed into the body of the synth.  God knows what damage lies underneath that.  Fucking pricks!

5mm of bubble wrap and a few mm of cardboard isn't a defence against those fucking ParcelFarce cocks.  I wouldn't trust them with a breeze block in a flightcase.

What a shame, sorry to hear it  from what you describe of the packaging it doesn’t sound sufficient for a heavy synth. I know the world would be a better place if parcels were handled with due care but the truth is they get tossed around, crushed and dropped and thus should be protected accordingly. I’ve had similar experiences and now go overkill on anything particularly heavy or large.

I also had a synth sent in that same sort of slapdash packaging. 1U rackmount, and - inevitably - arrived with a bent rack ear. Had a Nord Stage 3 arrive in the original packaging, but it'd been dropped on one corner and the wooden end cheek was cracked.

On the other hand, I once had a Flying Vee sent with soft case and bubblewrap, and that arrived in perfect condition.

    It's a lottery.

Do you think it's because they pay peanuts that they get monkeys working in these carriers?  How much extra effort would it take to treat every parcel like it contained glass than like it was a cow's leg wrapped in brown paper?

I despair at the utter contempt these arseholes must obviously have for people's packages.  If I were a delivery guy, I couldn't do anything but treat the packages with care.  It's basic respect.  WTF is wrong with these pricks?

    No.

It’s because customers demand the cheapest option.

They’re the ones who want to pay the peanuts.

So if the customer pays a low price that means the drivers must treat the parcels with no care ?

If the customers pay a low price, the drivers have to deliver a parcel every 10 mins (incl driving time), which means they don’t have time to “care” for anything other than shifting a box, as quickly as possible.

I don’t agree.  If you’re employed as a delivery person, and the only way you can earn the stated wage is to treat everyone’s packages like shit and you carry on doing that, I’d say that was your fault.  “Sorry I threw your Ming Vase over the wall but I’ve got to make another 30 drops this afternoon!”.....   Oh well, in that case, that’s fine!  Hope you finish your round!

Never ship a keyboard without either the original box or a hard case.

A couple of years ago the stories were coming thick and fast about how couriers were having to pay to actually keep themselves in a job and if they were off sick they had no choice but to pay £50 a day when they were sick. Remember when that poor chap died?

Being a courier can be a proper hard job with extremely poor conditions.

Not that it makes the broken synth issue any better, but it does explain why courier delivery drivers often do not give a shit.

    Give it a go.

See how you feel actually doing that job, for that money.

They don’t actively decide to treat your package “like shit”.  They’re just paid to hit targets, they’re not paid to care.  Ditto everyone else in the process chain.  Fault really lies with the sender though.

FWIW, I’m sorry for your seller’s loss, and your disappointment.
