What lurks beneath?

I have a Fernandez Revival (s-type) in gold. At least I thought I did. Noticed a chip in the finish and there is a glimpse of very interesting pattern underneath. Not concerned as it is on the rear, treble side. Also don't mind if I've been fobbed off with something that isn't really a Fernandez - it still plays absolutely great. Just interested to hear any ideas about what the rest of the guitar might look like beneath the gold poly...

I think it's unlikely to be a fake but I'm intrigued as to what that might be under the finish.

@SteveRobinson ;agree it would be a strange one to fake given low resale value. I'm also intrigued. Close up it looks like some sort of vinyl photo wrap (kind of grainy image that reminds me of my old MIJ photoflame finish strat).

Not uncommon for factories to overspray other finishes to meet an order for a particular colour.

Does it look like layers of paint, or is it structural, like laminations in wood

I once bought a black Tele on ebay that turned out to be CAR underneath!

@WezV it doesn’t look like either. Definitely not structural. Looks like some sort of laminated covering.

I have a MIJ 62 Candy Apple Red Tele and it has a layer of foil under the paint to give the metallic look.  I wonder it if is something like that?
