3/4 size basses - all much of a muchness?

I bought an Ibanez Mikro bass for my 8 year-old. He hasn't really taken to it, but I bloody love it!! It's the same size as a guitar (fits in a guitar gig bag), but has a fantastic tone and as a guitarist I find the scale length much more manageable.

I would favour the Bronco over the Ibanez TMB-30 for an 8-year old. That Ibanez has a very wide fingerboard, it's not like their super thin Wizard necks.
