Here’s a track I produced/mixed recently…

https://youtu.be/8Y2HjV-HLnY

Seeing as this is the studio and recording forum I thought I’d post up a recent bit of work I did for a band who I’m good friends with.

Pretty happy with how it turned out. Of course there are things I would have done differently and a mix is never finished, only abandoned, and I’m not convinced it comes across on YouTube as well as it does elsewhere as my snare sounds a bit smooshy, but it does the job and I’ve only listened on my phone to be fair.

It only came out today so I guess it’s a small plug for my mates too.

Lemme know what you reckon! I’ve not seen the video until today, but for a performance video, I like it. I think it’s shot well.

I worked on the whole album and it’s out next week. It’s quite diverse and there are some absolutely stunning vocals on it in places. Sam is a really great singer, but I think they’re gonna showcase that a bit more in the upcoming singles.

:)

The whole package is really good.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

If anyone has any questions about the mix or how it was put together, feel free to ask.

Everything was recorded at my house, so for that alone I’m pretty pleased with how it’s turned out.

The vocals were tracked with a Slate ML1 with none of the emulations active straight into the preamps of my SSL SiX. Which worked a lot better than people would probably think/expect. We did try an SM7B on the vocals also but it didn’t suit the singer quite as well. Cramming the 6-7 people we had into my room to do the choir/gang vocal section was fun. Think we tracked those parts 20-30 times. So I think there’s something daft like 180 voices in that section.

Rhythm guitars were all boosted JCM 800 into Ox. Lead stuff was my Friedman Small Box - again into the Ox.
