They really are pointless these threads.

"Apples - what am I missing"?

"Nothing, apples are shit, give me carrots any day."

"I used to like apples, but I've gone off them."

"I love apples, especially Golden Delicious"

"Golden Delicious are insipid - you should try Braeburns"

"People who eat apples are wankers"

    etc etc etc.

I used to enjoy a Pink Lady. I'm older now, so unfortunately it's Granny Smiths.

Oh come on, they murdered Ob-la-di Ob-la-da, and it was pretty awful to begin with! But yeah, Richard Beckinsale was quite good.

    I don't think there's a Henry in Pink Floyd?
That was Pink's brother, he went into teaching.

I can't really be bothered to defend a body of work that speaks for itself

One of my favourites PF albums has to be The Division Bell, brilliant album.

    Wearing the Inside Out

High Hopes (brilliant slide playing from Gilmour)

    And Coming back to life

Fuck the PF haters ! :)

I loved Pink Floyd as a child age 8/9 and up to probably around my mid-twenties, but you kind of grow out of them. It's basically some 'middle-class kids' moaning about organised society and being post-war babies, with lots of slow blues solos with echo and ambient washes.

My father and my uncle essentially played every record at me as a child and so I had all the original vinyl at my disposal, which is how I learnt to play the guitar really. I just sat there and worked it out by ear, by moving the stylus on my record player back and slowing down by resting my finger on the platter etc

They were great when Sid was in charge, as in they were a bit different at the time and his quirky songs were of the era.

I used to adore Meddle when I was a child and also Ummagumma, I always found DSOTM a bit samey, was never my favourite and found WYWH was more enjoyable, Animals was a bit hit and miss for me.

But in the '70s it just all went 'middle-class' wank in hindsight, the '80s stuff post-split is just fucking awful and tedious at best, Delicate Sound of Bollocks etc

I can still listen to them, but I find a lot of it 'really dull' now I'm 48 and it isn't as 'deep' as many make out. When I was 12 it was meaningful, but nowadays I find it all a bit whiny and meh.

I don’t think you grow out of them. I liked the post Syd, pre DSOTM stuff when it was released and I still like it now. Echoes is a great album side, that cascading guitar riff after the birds/weird noises section still sends shivers down my spine. Part of it’s nostalgia, no doubt, but they recorded some really great material in that era.

Honestly I was never into Floyd util I saw the Waters DSOTM tour. Hearing it live, open air in the Piazza Grande in Locarno, really made sense and since then I have really enjoyed listening.

Totally worth the investment this. Pink Floyd has really grown on me and I’m still discovering more.

I think because a lot of it is quite ambient, and mabye a bit retro or dated (kids choir in Another brick etc) much of this had passed me by.

The main route in has actually been watching Gilmours two more recent live releases (RAH and Pompeii). I think seeing all the multi instrumental stuff…he plays sax too!… as well as listening has deepened my appreciation. Then Pulse, Knebworth and coming back to the albums with a fresh sense of appreciation. It’s definitely mood music. You have to approach it with a different mindset from more in you’re face rock and blues stuff. Going to learn comfortably numb soon.
