Think my champ’s output valve is on the blink, after something fairly cheap to try replacing it and see if this crackling sorts itself out.

    I have nothing to add other than I'm in the same boat as you. At least, I hope it's just the output valve. Good luck with the search.  :)

    yeah mine only crackles when the volume is dimed with an attenuator, hence why i think maybe it's the output valve reaching its limit. this is a good read:

    hard to decide, JJ is cheap, tung-sol apparently sounds better for not much more £££... and then you might as well pay even more for a nice NOS one.
