41mm nut - where to get one?

What's Hot
I've got an old Japanese strat copy which I've gutted and am replacing everything on. The nut is broken so I need a new one. Thing is it's 41mm length but all I can find online are 42mm and 43mm
Does anyone have any idea where I can get a 41mm nut, or any other ideas?

Thanks.

Get a 42mm one and file 1/2 a mil off each end

Not sure if it would fit your neck , but Yamaha Pacifica has 41mm nut.

This approach is fine for working from a blank but problematic with commercial, pre-slotted nuts.

Working from a blank allows you to choose your own string spacing and match the fingerboard radius.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

  • Try the tusq nuts, they’ve plenty of different sizes. Get the size and model number from their website and then find it for sale in the uk.

Closest approximation, 0.5mm off each side shouldnt be the end of the world with your string spacing

Yes, .5mm each off each end isn't ideal, but a pre-slotted nut can often be a bit of a compromise anyway as you can't dictate exactly where the slots are or what angle they are filed to.  Obviously, using a blank solves all the issues, but it can be a daunting task and expensive to set yourself up with a decent set of nut slotting files.

    Brilliant, thank you for that.

This is the best one, apart from it's about 2mm too wide, otherwise perfect: https://graphtech.com/collections/tusq-nuts-guitar/products/tusq-nut-slotted

    I'll just file it down.

Can't believe how much money I've spent doing up this piece of junk guitar. Oh well - it's been fun and I've learnt a hell of a lot.

Once I've got it in working order and played it for a while I'm stripping it all off and going to re-finish the body.

    Thanks.

Okay cool - yes will do.

I took a before pic already, and have since changed the hardware and pickguard.

Obviously the pickguard didn't fit so I had to file off quite a lot of it and made a dogs dinner of the part around the neck, so may well buy a new pickguard and re-do it.
