Brilliant.  Think there's a thread dedicated to it.

Blade runner this weekend. No one will have see it yet but reviews are looking excellent and after the amazing Arrival (Villeneuve’s last) I can’t wait.

    Prisoners 8.5/10

Thought I'd catch on another of Villeneuve's earlier movies before BR2049. It's BRILLIANT. Jackman is a bit shouty at points, and it's a bit tough in the middle (in both length and content), but Jake Gyllenhaal is amazing and the final act is just stunning.  Really impressed

Very good indeed. I've seen it in a cinema and once again on bluray recently.

Don't forget Paul Dano - imho one of the most talented new wave of actors from Hollywood.

Hell or High Water - 9/10

Currently on Amazon Prime, best film I've seen in ages. Brilliant exploration of law and morality / family / economics / geography and poverty, and the characters are absolute joy. Jeff Bridges, Ben Foster and Chris Pine are superb and it is directed by David McKenzie.

This waitress scene is a jem.

The Mrs and I made a choice to see either "Victoria and Abdul" or "Mother!" last night, depending on timing and proximity. We ended up with Mother!

Dark, tough. It's a biblical analogy set in an almost horror genre. If you like art films and allegorical stuff (and if you know the story, the Bible) then it might, or might not be up your tree.

I strongly recommend "CitizenFour" (2014) if you liked it.

(And then "Risk" from last year - if you liked that one).

    Blade Runner 2049

I feel like I still need to mentally digest it but it's really really good.

    McCabe & Mrs Miller

One of those films I've always been aware of by reputation but never actually seen - I got it on DVD recently.

It's fantastic. Nothing like the romanticised Hollywood version of the West in any way, and all the better for it. It's somehow gritty and realistic while also dreamlike and ethereal at the same time - beautifully made and brilliantly acted. Pleased to have it on DVD since it will bear watching more than once.

    10/10

All For Love (AKA St. Ives)

Period romance/comedy based (I suspect rather loosely) on Robert Louis Stevenson's unfinished last novel. I'm not sure the book is a comedy, but I haven't read it.

Terrible, but quite enjoyable - mainly because Richard E. Grant and Miranda Richardson over-act magnificently.

As a film, probably 5/10 - but actually more fun than that sounds… best with a glass of wine or two :).

Baby Driver ..... cliched and fully predictable .... saved by some good music and a couple of good supporting characters.  I can see it doing well because by and large it's what the masses want
