Looping instrumental songs..

Im giving serious consideration to ditching singers all together (too much drama) and trying out doing some living looping stuff. However, Ive never done it before so Im looking to do some (alot) of home work before I venture out to open mics to trial songs etc. 

Does anyone know of anyone using looping without vocals  or covering pop stuff using a looper? Im really new to this as an idea so would be looking at getting a looper (prob a two + channel unit). 

Any help/idea/suggstions welcome.

There's a chap who used to do the open mic circuit my way, pre-Covid, who did a lot of this. Had a small board with looper and delay to build layers and did quite a lot of instrumental stuff. He did sing as well,  though; just not on every song.
