  • I think it looks absolutely brilliant.

Unfortunately for them I fall outside of the target market by virtue of not having any money

I think it's cool as a wacky science project someone might have built, for themselves, in their shed.  But I can't imagine why anyone would want to buy one.

They've just released a second model.  This tiem with  bit more wood for the traditionalists ;)

It's made to allow the top with magnetically mounted pickups to flex away from the strings.   Either  for a properly named natural tremolo, or controlling other things

This will sound like I'm trying to make a joke, but I'm dead serious. I'd be very worried with that guitar design's return to zero when flexing the top. Imagine you've soundchecked and then during the performance you keep pushing the top as intended. What happens if the top doesn't return to the same pickup distance as during the soundcheck? Sounds like a nightmare. Trem (should be called vibrato but I digress) systems on guitars require a bit of setting up and engineering for consistency. This metal sheet pushing and pulling has neither.

I think it's a valid concern, either due to metal fatigue or the mounting of the flexible top working loose over time.  I'm not sure how much those will be an issue in real life use though.

You can notice that the pickups are a little bit less firmly attached in the vid when pressing the top down. The pickups are flat, and the surface they are mounted to moves from flat to curved when in use.

For some reason I really hate the way the pickup and bridge have a wood look and also the pastel colours.

I was talking about the relative movement between pickups and strings on the recent tone wood thread and everyone said I was daft...

Now I'll admit I didn't see this coming, but I'm still not wrong!!

  • I don't really understand the need to redesign something that already works fine. It's like making a square wheel.

Could be in the running for ugliest production guitar ever.

If someone gave me one I'd sooner hurl it into the sea in the middle of the night than sell it, I would hate anybody to actually see me with it.

I actually think it's super cool and I'd have one in a heartbeat if I could afford one. I can imagine plenty of fun applications for ambient/textural/cinematic stuff.
