TC Electronic SCF Gold vs Original SCF Version

Just managed to get the new Gold version of the TC SCF & initial impressions are really good.  Build quality is almost on par with my original mains powered version & a/b’ing them sonically in mono shows remarkably similar sonic similarity- going to try again soon hooking ‘em both up in stereo & comparing again… the Gold’s 9v operation makes it much more pedalboard friendly as I had real issues with placement of the original due to hum generated from the internal transformer interacting with the main board PSU…

  • Is there any internal voltage doubling/multiplying going on with the new one, to compensate for the difference in power?

A quick look at the original SCF schematic suggests it is running at 15v DC - plus the current draw would have been around 2-300ma given the compander circuit too… not had a look inside the Gold version yet as i don’t want to invalidate warranty  - but it’s pretty straightforward these days to use a charge pump or similar to up voltage from 9v - it needs minimum of 150ma so that would suggest it’s the case.
