I have to be honest, I had never heard of him until today, but I've just been watching this YouTube video.

The interviewer seems astounded by the idea of putting a Jazzmaster neck on a Tele body.

I guess maybe he was one of the first, if not the first to use that particular combo? Guitar stabs are not too high in the mix on classic motown but it was important for adding texture and rhythm to the songs.

He was also probably one of tthose people who "put away music" for decades when his paid gig ended.

RIP Joe Messina.

The thread gave me a jolt as I have a soft spot for country singer Joe Dee Messina since seeing her put on a barnstorming show when I was on holiday in Memphis.

As far as I know, Joe Dee Messina is in rude health, thankfully! And as for plain ol' Joe Messina, 93 is a fine innings in my book: he was lucid until the end and had his family by his side. A total win as far as I'm concerned. I hope for similar for Joe Dee.
