Henry Patterson (Jack Higgins)

Don't know how many of you are readers, but I have spent many hours lost in a Jack Higgins novel.  He reached the good age of 92 though, and was still writing 5 years ago.

To be honest I didn't realise he was still around and I've never read any of his books. 

But that's three of the most familiar names from the bookshops of my youth gone in the last couple of years - Clive Cussler, Wilbur Smith and now Jack Higgins.
