Music Production Course - Moody Electronic / Rock Project

Hi everyone,

I've been taking a short music production course with London Sound Academy. They mainly specialise in DJing and electronic music such as EDM and hip hop, but one of their tutors is also a bassist who's worked in rock music, so I've been working with him.

I've had 3 sessions so far and I'm pleased with how things have been going. I've *mostly* finished a moody sounding song that starts out electronic and then builds to a heavier, more "real" instrument ending. I've got a bit of a break now before my final session so the tutor's suggested I write a very different sounding song and bring that along as well.

I'd love to get your feedback on how the track is sounding so far!

My latest export is here:

Thanks :)

Think I'm happy with all the instrumentation, now I just need to work on mixing which is completely new to me!

Overall I like it. Ive got back into playing guitar after my usual flip from electronic to metal that happens every year or so, this has given me a bit of a push to try and blend the two together a bit more. What equipment are you using and what do you think of the course so far?
    Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow.....

Sounds fine to me, listening at low volume with my untutored "consumer" ears (as in, I know SFA about the details of mixing really, and fumble about in the dark on my own stuff). All nicely balanced etc. etc. The drums are possibly a bit 'forward' in the early parts, but that's likely a stylistic choice you've gone for - they sound integrated, just very present and in the foreground, rather than underpinning.

Good luck with the next one!

I meant to comment on this when you first posted but seemingly I didn't - sorry about that.

I enjoyed it, some different textures in there which makes it interesting, and I think it shows you've done some proper learning on how to put it all together rather than just having thrown it together and hope for the best (which is what my stuff sounds like), which is very refreshing.

I've not listened to the new version just yet so I'll have a listen later.

But, good stuff, well done for doing it and for putting it up for us to listen to.
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

Sounds good to me, I like the vibe, plenty of dynamics and drama if I was to make any suggestions at this point, purely based on listening through a chromebook, it would be that the tom runs after the bridge could be a little louder maybe? and perhaps a bit more delay on the lead guitars, as in echo, to give them more depth in the mix, sounds a little dry on the first break, and a bit unbalanced later on at the end.
It's nice to get something completed, ( they never get completed ) but great results for 3 sessions, let us hear what your second attempt is too,  I'm intrigued  as to which direction it will take.

Thanks all for your comments, sorry I'm only just getting back to you all now. I had my last session earlier in the week and this is where I'm at with it. It now has a real bass mixed in, and a load of other changes.
