What song are you learning?

What's Hot
I thought it would be nice to see what everyone is learning to push their technique.
I've had the time to work through this Ornette Coleman arrangement by Julian Lage this week:

It's definitely stretched my techniques and hands.

What pieces are you learning?

This one. The notes are easy, but my ageing fingers need some practice to reach tempo:

  • I’m not deliberately learning songs to push my technique, but learning disparate songs for weddings can be a challenge.
For context, I play guitar in a (power?) trio.
Here’s what’s on the go at the moment:

I Was Born To Love You - Freddie Mercury (They specified this over the later Queen version.)
We Are The Champions - Queen
    We Are Young - fun
I Get The Sweetest Feeling - Jackie Wilson
    Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles
    I’m Your Man - Wham!
What Makes You Beautiful - One Direction (They want the first verse slow for their first dance, then kick it back up to full speed for everyone to join them on the dancefloor,)

I'm not currently learning to push technique persae, but more to get a new set list for a covers band. As I'm both vocals and guitar I have been pushing what I'm doing through more adventurous song choices.

We recently have been going over Stand by R.E.M which is surprisingly tricky to play and sing. I only recently discovered that I've been playing a much more complicated version at both the key changes compared to the original recording but it's more fun to and it looks impressive as far as any guitarists in the audience go.

All the other stuff I've got to learn at the moment is dead easy, such as Sit Down by James (although the triplet strummed chords towards the end of the verse are an awkward polyrhythmic clash with the vocals) and And She Was by Talking Heads

Our Sax player also plays flute so am working on Cisco Pat Martino.  Mostly the technical challenges are getting it up to tempo rather than gymnastic chord voicing seen  On the Lage video.

Dream Theater - Wait for Sleep
    PF Comfortably numb

Both on piano. I can't sing so WFS is half from the score (bloody hard!) and half my own arranging to incorporate the melody. CN all my own woeful arrangement.

Guitar: so obscure that probably no-one can find it, but I'm doing an arrangement of Orion by Takiguchi Yasunari. I plan to create the backing track as well.

I'm currently trying to crack Jeff Buckley's Mojo Pin as a solo voice + guitar, without cheating and playing chords on the verses
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me
