Favourite handy recorder (multitrack field recorder)

Looking at the tascam dr40x or zoom h4n for recording acoustic instruments and record other sound sources and having an ability to overdub and layer 

What's your favourite device for this?

I replied on the other thread, Zoom R16 is what you need.

I would imagine the field recorder will be quite fiddly for for layering and mixing.
