Hey guys, i'm looking for some SDX recommendations to compliment the core library in SD3. Ideally I'd like them to take up as little space as possible. My styles are mainly heavy rock, blues - think a cross between zep, Floyd and Sabbath.

The core library is very versatile and I can recommend the Groove3 Superior Drummer 3 tutorials. I got a bunch of the Groove3 SD3 tutorials when I think there was a bundle offer. The Groove3 "Recreating the Legends of Drums" tutorial was particularly educational and good fun (link below). It formed the basis of many of my presets for the core library.

If you're going to get some of the newer SDX expansions it's worth considering their SDX Expansion 3 Pack (link below). You can determine which are the newer expansions because their system requirements state that they need Superior Drummer 3 (or above). The newer expansions are pretty big and typically each require 100GB storage and upwards. Before getting SD3, I upgraded to a new external 4TB hard drive for my music libraries.

The older SDX expansions are sometimes on offer at a good price, so it's worth waiting for those offers. You can determine which are the older expansions because their system requirements state that they need Superior Drummer 2 (or above). The older expansions aren't so storage intensive.

Then there's the option option of using EZ Drummer (EZX) expansions, which are less expensive and sometimes on offer. These require less storage space.

Before deciding, I watched and listened to loads and loads of demos, both on the Toontrack website and also on Youtube (especially Mike Luke).  After much deliberation, I got the following newer SDX expansions for my 3 pack, as I felt these would cover pretty much most things.

    Decades
    Death & Darkness
    Fields Of Rock

For the styles you describe you might like 'Fields Of Rock' or 'Legacy Of Rock', but I don't own the latter. Best to check the demo videos and audio for yourself.

    It's not a competition.

The later SDXs seem to have grown huge in size, and need downloading as one file. The earlier ones has small installation options and only downloaded the data needed for that installation configuration.

There is no SDX for this.

Fields of Rock is one of my favourite SDXs and would tick your boxes except for install size I think - 163GB.

Thanks guys...I've had an extensive listen to the demos. I really like fields of rock and Death & Darkness, so I've decided to trade in my current SSD for a 4TB Evo to accommodate those plus the gazillion other samples I own.

For the drum sounds you mention, Legacy of Rock and Fields of Rock would be great. Both are excellent.
Personally, Legacy of Rock is my favourite.
Progressive Foundry is also very good, too.

Nice.  It's my aim to get rid of all the large spinners in my PC - 4TB would do nicely.  Sadly I'll have to wait for prices to drop, so it'll be a while yet...

I really like Joe Barresi Evil Drums but I'm not sure if you can still buy it for SD. Works fine with SD3, but I think they might have had a falling out with Toontrack, so not sure it's it's still an option.

Just checked @Lodious & it’s not available on https://www.toontrack.com/ I don’t remember it being on there (I check it regularly, for new stuff), so would guess it’s been years since it could be bought from there.
