Splitting holiday cost, what would you do?

I'm pretty sure what the Greeks would do would be to work out how to get someone else to pay, and that guy would work our how not to pay tax on it!

Before we were married, my wife went on holiday with her boyfriend at the time, and they split up on the flight out. 

It wasn't a good week away apparently. Quite awkward.

At least it wasn't a fortnight.

When me and three mates drove over to Greece in Sept 2020 for a windsurfing trip I shared an apartment with my mate who id known for 40 years.

I knew he intended flying his wife out for 10 days at the start of the month so he got the double bedroom and I has the sofa bed. It never occurred to me that he should pay more for his wife. We are mates.

At the end of her stay I was due to move into the bedroom but I'd got comfortable on the sofa bed and just stayed there for the whole holiday. Never even thought that he should have paid more than a 50-50 split.

However, when planning the trip one guy (who in the end didn't come) was insistent that he has to have his own bedroom and that was going cause a problem as someone else was going to have to accept inferior accommodation. And the guy thought it was fair to split 50-50! We were pleased when he dropped out as we were going to have to tell him to book his own accommodation.

My ex's sister once tagged along with us on a holiday to Turkey.  We paid separately for the flights but the two of us paid for the suite and didn't take any money from her for the accommodation.  It only had one bedroom with a massive bed, so she slept on the sofa bed in the livingroom.  After a couple of nights I felt a bit rotten about her sleeping on a lumpy hard sofa bed on her own, so I allowed her to sleep with us.  Wasn't that gracious of me
