  • Hi All,

My name is Keith, I'm 67 years old, from Bromley, Kent, I've been playing for 57 years and have been gigging for 50 years, mainly as a semi-pro but with a five year period of pro gigging, way back in the last century, after which a "sensible" job waylaid me. I guess I'd consider myself a "jobbing" guitarist, having gigged in most popular music styles over the years.

Q.1. Ah, the perennial dilemma - how many Strats are "enough" ? Just when I've thought "no more" another creeps under the Radar, so to speak.
    Q.2. Bromley, Kent.
Q.3. To keep studying, learning and keep playing as much and as well as the newly ongoing battle with Osteoarthritis will allow, so far so good.
Q.4. This is a real tough one, probably my 1968 Firemist Silver Tele Custom, which I've owned for 45 years and has great sentimental value.
Q.5. Another tough one. So many to choose from - I'll go with Steely Dan's Kid Charlemagne right now.

Thanks very much for admitting me. All the best to you all.

    Cheers
    Keith

  • Hi Guys, nice to meet you all.

Q1: Where did your username come from?

It's part of an old address.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

England - about as far from the sea as you can get!

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

Modest: just to play rhythm in a decent classic rock covers band.

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

My partscaster Strat. Mexican Classic Player body, US standard neck, Callaham bridge and trem. It has outclassed every other guitar I've ever owned.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

Whole Lotta Love, Still gives me chills.

    Hello everybody!

I just joined recently to share my gear and instruments love with you all.
I  will start reading posts and will share my knowledge and will learn a lot also.

Q1:  Where did you username come from?

My  best friend called me so once and it became until today

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    Spain

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

To gain a decent following with my band

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

There are several I love but I would choose my Tokai LS320 Goldtop for a sentimental reason

I have some interesting gear such as a Fender Iwanade telecaster from 1990, a truly treasure I play through a Ceriatone 2005 made chassis (a prototype really) 5e5-A amp we crafted a cabinet to with a 15" Weber P15N. I also own a fantastic Navigator by ESP 4 strat style witn a 9'5" radius, a tone monster ans some really good Tokais I have carefully chosen through the years, a lot of guitars as you see.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

    Hideway

Have a nice day you all!

  • Well hello......

I'm a bass player who attempted to make it as a classical player while I was at the Royal Academy of Music at the same time as Simon Rattle, Annie Lennox (played flute in one of the orchestras I was in), Joe Jackson and Irvine Arditti. Quite a good year I should say. My ways strayed into jazz, and I freelanced in the UK and then Norway for 6 years which I loved and where I started songwriting and put a band together. Sad to say I burned out with the stress of organising a rock band and first went to see a psychologist and then in a kind of eureka moment decided to become one myself and specialise in musicians. And here I am 5 books and around 2,500 musicians later.

I love making things and starting projects and I have a small workshop. Haven't built an instrument yet but have built tube microphones, preamps and amps. If I had more space and a proper bench I'd love to build my own bass. I used to play a WAL fretless I got from Wal himself but these days I've gone short scale and play a Gretsch G2220. Nice bass. Short scales are something else, as anyone who plays one knows.........

I never read instuctions and am going to guess at the questions/answers.

I wacked the top of my finger[fret hand].

    Near Gatwick airport.

    To learn to play guitar.

    A yamaha guitar.

    Voddoo chile.

I am just a young lad, yes I saw Steve Hillage front Gong and went to Watchfield. I recently decided I needed to learn to play guitar. I hadn't thought about the bent finger when I decided I need to learn to play guitar, it's just the tip and wasn't noticible till I started using a computer keyboard. I have bought a guitar, getting the wallet open was quite a struggle.

Q1:  Where did you username come from?

I use this handle quite a lot, because one of my bands was called Hudson Super 6, but also because the guitar has 6 strings.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    Derby, UK.

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

Just to keep making records and playing. I’ve been a professional bass player for most of the 90s, started playing guitar seriously a couple of years ago and I’ve been signed to a major label and several indie labels. I now run a label of my own, as well as still play in bands.

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

    My 1962 Jazzmaster reissue.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

    Sonic Youth - Teenage Riot

Q1:  Where did you username come from?

Summer before university I always wanted to go on/organise picnics, so my friends ended up nicknaming me Yogi, upon my dad hearing it first thing he adapted it to "Yogmaister"

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    I'm in Manchester, UK

Q3: What's your main musical ambition?

Currently playing bass for a friend's band, first band I've been in and actually played live, so want to help them get more gigs. But my main ambition is to start a band that is more my type of music and where I play guitar and go from there.

Q4: Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

Sold nearly all my guitar gear a couple of years back so currently it's a 70s Shaftesbury 4003 bass copy. Otherwise it would have been my peavey classic 30 combo (on the search for a another one).

Q5: Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

Would have to be Procol Harum - Whiter Shade of Pale

Look forward to chatting with you all!

Q1:  Where did you username come from?
No prizes for guessing... It stuck when I worked at a place with another James, and he'd been there longer, so I reverted to my weekend name.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?
    Lancashire

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?
Just to get better than I was yesterday. I record quite a bit with my hobby band so just to keep on getting better at that really.

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?
A custom made 7 string from Croatia, that I managed to get from a guy who had comissioned the build but now needed the money. With hindsight it was a huge risk buying sight unseen from across the world, and with it being an unknown luthier, but that risk paid off.

Hello everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself on here in the correct fashion, it's Mikey Demus here of the band Skindred, and also Redbeard Effects.

Q1: Where did your username come from?

It's the name of my pedal company, which I started in 2019 with Adrian Thorpe of ThorpyFX (who requires no introduction). We make effects pedals with an alternative edge that are highly reactive, superbly engineered and handbuilt by rockstars right here in the UK.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    I'm based in Brighton, UK.

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

I'm lucky that I've managed to make a living from playing music for almost 20 years with my band. My ambition is to keep that going, and release more gnarly, alternative effects pedals into the wild!

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

My Fender Ratocaster - a silver tele partscaster I made about 10 years ago with a Strat neck and Hot Rails pickups. Its battered to hell and I love it.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

Today I'm gonna say If 6 Was 9 by Hendrix!

Thanks guys, glad to be on here!

Good evening... Just joined, so here's the 'essentials' asked for...

Q1: My User Name has been with me for many decades, and reflects the name I'm most often addressed with by family members (Dad...), followed by a country code (33=France...), then a 'County' code (53=Mayenne...).

Q2:  Answered above, really. I'm British (born Norfolk, but no-one is perfect, then Bedfont and Shepperton for many years...); I moved to France in '75, to play music (I'm a drummer...).

Q3:  Too late for any ambition at all; I've done (very modestly...) just about everything I thought myself capable of, and enjoyed it all. Retired, now (and old...). Main ambition is, every year, to see the year out, and then some...

Q4:  Best gear..? Without a doubt: my drums. A Camco set (they became DW in essence...) bought new in '73/4, which have served me well all this time. Paiste/Sabian cymbals for the most part, with an odd Meinl in there somewhere.

Q5:  No masterpieces, but I do contribute regularly to a Composition Challenge on another Forum, so have a fair number of pieces on Soundcloud, of very varied nature. Listen to them at your peril; you have been warned..!

Username:  Simply made up to be simple and memorable.

Where:        Live in the UK, Oxfordshire

Ambition:    To be a better player every time I pick up a guitar. This means making my fretting fingers relax more.

Best Gear:  A well made acoustic guitar ( Santa Cruz, Gibson, Martin etc)

No 1 Track: Angie by Bert Jansch; I never tire of listening to it.

Looking forward to learning from you all. Keep Safe!

  • Hello. I'm from Canada... addicted to gear and guitars, like everyone here probably. I work in the exercise and rehab industry, but my hobby is buying, selling and trading gear (need to sell some of it to get other stuff) and doing demos and reviews. I'm using my actual name. My best advice is, you likely will sound the same no matter the gear... sure, some differences, but it's amazing how much is in the hands and the style in which you play. Can't think of a single track I like the most, although I have an attachment to Beethoven's 6th symphony (first record I bought, at age 10).
