Neural Amp Modeler - free tone capture/sim

What's Hot
Anybody picked up and played with Neural Amp Modeler yet? From what I've watched on youtube, compression etc allowing, sounds like a great free alternative to the other expensive tone capture options.

Someone running one through a raspberry pi for a neat portable system here:

Actual OSS plugin here: https://github.com/sdatkinson/NeuralAmpModelerPlugin

It's on my list of things to get around to but keen to hear peoples' take on it that have had prolific use of the hardware solutions, Kemper, Quad Cortex, Tonex, etc.

Lots more examples on YouTube, some good high gain examples and a few nice crunchy ones. I'm sure there'll be some really good captures available as this starts to gain a bit more traction.

I downloaded it last night but haven't yet had a chance to play with it.

One minor irritation is that I want to capture my amp but I use my Boss GT100 as my interface and it can only sample at 44.1KHz whereas the NAM requires 48KHz. That just means I need to buy new toys though

  • anyone is using the Neural Amp Modeler app ?

I didnt spend much time with it in past , it was a CPU breaker , didnt care much for it.

But this weekend I give it a second round , download some nam files and this thing is amazing !

Im a ex Kemper , ex Boss IR-200 and Tonex user , but this sounds a lot better .

    And its free !

Didn't Valeton (or similar) mention a cheap NAM interface at NAMM?
    I'll find a video when I find a sec.

  • I did my first NAM file yesterday.

It sounds and feels  just like the amp ( Laney Lc15 ) . All that sweet treble of the valve is there.

Cant wait to do more captures :)

  • NAM is immense, fair play. The best of the profiling technologies I’ve tried, no doubt.

  • Been my go to for a good few months..  a pedal version, I’d consider.  Got a few Raspberry Pis to try it with if I can find an ideal mini touchscreen

    There is a pedal version

That pedal version looks terrible IMO. Really basic and unintuitive.

  • Agreed. It’s going to need something in the mould of the Tonex or even the Kemper player to make any kind any kind of dent and gain a following. It looks tacky and cheap to me.

Tonocracy (also free but much better interface) will import NAM captures, so you don't have to have NAM to listen to the captures on tonehunt.org

I love NAM. Astonishing to have such great sounding technology for free. Only problem is I'm Old Skool and really want to capture my own amps but I can't for the life of me work out how to do this in my DAW (Garageband); I really don't understand how all the routing options work. Grandad.

You can load NAM captures into Two Notes Genome which is a nicer interface as well, you get the other features of that software too like their cab sims and other effects (and their modelled amps, but I've really used those). NAM in general is a very cool thing to exist, and has great potential. At the time I was using it though i just needed a proper hardware unit so went with Tonex instead - I'm sure the Dimehead thing is very clever but it just seemed like a homebrew product (little did I know at that point how much of a pain in the arse the Tonex software-to-pedal interface would be haha)

There's a brilliant Silvertone 1484 crunchy capture and something like a "compressed Vibroverb" one that I still like to use now though via Genome when recording
I'm scared and I'm waiting for life

I didn't realise Tonocracy loaded NAM captures! I love the TimR Splawn ProMod captures and found a few other good ones, but wanted a free plugin/standalone where I could build effects chains in presets so I don't have to feel like I'm bodging it together with free vst reverbs, boost pedals etc. Will give Tonocracy a try

    Many thanks for your help.
I'll definitely give it a watch but I am seriously befuddled by much of this!
I'll get there in the end.
