Shall we forgive him  The One and Only by Chesney Hawkes ? However he was instrumental in getting Allan Holdsworth a lot of UK Gigs when he was a relative unknown in his solo days

The best of his era and genre, without question.
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

Nothing to forgive.  Well crafted pop song... and a nice lead break.  :)

At the height of his fame, everyone in my band called him Kirk Nickshaw - mainly because we found 'Wouldn't it be Good' so annoying.

With the benefit of hindsight and a much more open musical mind, he was rather good.

Good player and he had some nice custom-made guitars too.

He was a regular customer at a previous dealership I worked at.

    Never met him though.

From all accounts he's a top bloke, and really easy going.

Ringleader of the Cambridge cartel, pedal champ and king of the dirt boxes (down to 21)

He was using Bad Cats and PRS when we did gigs with him pver the summer. He was brilliant, as was his band.

  • Really excellent guitarist and songwriter. I know many people find "Wouldn't It Be Good" quite annoying but melodically it's a really interesting song. Brilliant bassline.

Did you know that Cheesey Wanks is an anagram of Chesney Hawkes.

    Actually it isn't - but it's close...

  • I can forgive him the Chesney Hawkes song, but not "Whole Again" by Atomic Kitten.

Other than that, he's written and performed some good songs.

He didn't write "Whole again" - that was a Stuart Kershaw and Andy McCluskey of OMD. He has written for some boy bands, The Hollies and Cliff Richard

Cloak And Dagger!  He's one of the best of his genre, and there are some great guitar parts throughout his music even though to many it seems like it's just 80s synth pop.

Kershaw was brilliant live....Garry Wallace, later Floyd, was his star....the caged percussionist

Has written some brilliant songs and was one of the genuinely serious talents of the 80s scene

I stand corrected then. OMD have discredited themselves...

Who were those talents? Neil Finn would be top of my list for sure,

Neil Finn is quality as well as Nik Kershaw,if I had to throw in another great talent from the 80's, it would have to be Prince.
