Wedding gig on lead guitar for a friend of the singer. Do you ever have a gig where it feels like an invisible force is making you sound and play better? That was last night. I had a head start with the gear - Custom Shop Strat and a self-pimped Tele Deluxe into Matchless Lightning Reverb. I don’t normally use that Strat for such a rocky set but a lot of the time I was stacking a Peacekeeper into a RevivalDrive (with clean blend) and the thing just sang. The Mids switch on the RD really came into its own for fattening things up.

    Very tidy set up !

The badge on the drum skin is cool

Festival gig this afternoon. “Back line provided”. So we turn up, and there’s no back line amps. I’m OK. I can DI, and use my powered monitor. The organisers managed to find a bass amp and cab.

From where I was standing it went well. There were people dancing and singing along, and I didn’t see them do that for any other acts.

Just back from a pub gig. Great setup and sound guy, but we were woeful. Drummer had crawled out of his sick bed to play, and was definitely below par and we actually stopped a song In the middle with collective amnesia.
Had to lug my Bluesbreaker up a steep flight of stairs too. The joys!

They want us back in September!

Had a solo gig last night in a pub . Did a 50 minute acoustic spot just me and guitar . Then did 75 min electric spot with backing tracks. All routed through boss street cube 2 , tracks via blue tooth to street cube then line out to in house pa.
format went down a storm which slightly surprised me. Also first use of Stagetraxx 3 which worked pretty well.

Saturday night out with my 3-piece rock/pop covers band in a local pub. Given the choice of playing in the bar or in a smallish marquee outside, we chose inside for fear of being by ourselves when the night turned cold. Only a few in but met up with an old work mate and we went down well. So a good one.
Sunday at Exmouth Pavilion in the garden outside with our Bowie tribute band. We do this once a year and always look forward to it. We use our PA and there's a DJ to fill in. There was a great summer hols crowd of at least a couple of hundred both in the garden and dancing on the low wall just off the seafront road. Open top buses going by and a giant Ferris wheel with people singing along. We went down a storm and had some good offers of work for next year. All in all a great weekend, now to watch the footy final...

Last night’s gig went very well, considering I lost my voice this week and hadn’t even spoken for two days. 186 miles to the venue, poor bassist who travelled with me had to talk to himself all the way there…Had no idea what state my voice was going to be in until I opened my mouth to sing the first song…

Oh, did I mention they’d paid extra to upgrade from 2 x 1hr to 2 x 90 mins?! Three hours of singing to do with potentially no voice!!!

Thankfully, though I was sounding more Rod Stewart-esque than usual we got through it. Bassist stepped up and sang more than usual, and the crowd were up for it. Turned out to be a great night. Phew!

Saturday afternoon gig on the free outdoor jazz stage at Mouth of the Tyne festival. Sideways rain while we were setting up, stage crew on top of the stage brushing water off, but stopped raining as we started, even so, I left my pedals in the case and went straight into the amp. Enjoyable set of mostly Wayne Shorter tunes, must remember to take my fingerless gloves to every gig though, even if it's bloody July!

First gig with new singer and it went really well. There were a few mistakes but nothing worth worrying about.

As long as it was the new singer making the mistakes you’re in the clear!

A solo gig on Saturday afternoon for a bike gang bash. I was on 3-5:30 outside playing rock classics with tracks. Quite an intimidating looking crowd of around 150, a sea of leather waistcoats. I was booked by a mate who was well in with them so that took the edge off the thing. So the usual Lizzy, White Snake, Gary Moore, Rainbow went down well but not too much applause at the start which I kind of expected. Once the alcohol kicked in though they warmed to me and it got going. The high point was when I dared to put in my rock version of Mama Mia, this really split the crowd, some looked stony faced but others thought it was genius. In the end they all just morphed into the normal people they really are and the last song (Daydream believer) had them all singing along. I went and left my pedal board with a grands worth of gear on it at the venue so had to go back today ( Monday) to collect it. Luckily one of the other bands handed it in, my faith in human kindness restored...

A few weeks back we played a mini festival near my mate's house where we were the "headliners". Lots of fun and for the first time, I took three guitars (LP, Tele and Strat).  Due to the relaxed atmosphere, I had a couple of pints between sets, so was bursting for the toilet during the encore songs (terrifying!). The whole band really enjoyed the gig so they're all looking for cancellations before the end of the year. My enthusiasm is definitely back. Next gig is on Aug 31st and due to hols etc. we won't get to rehearse properly beforehand.

A very hot Sunday afternoon gig with a Bowie tribute band in a pub garden to around 100 punters. We arranged between ourselves to bring multiple gazebos, from experience the blazing sun makes for a difficult gig. Duly erected in a 2+1 format we set up and we're all totally drenched in sweat by the time for a sound check. We started at 4pm and the crowd soon got into it once we had played a few better known hits (we find that lesser known Bowie album tracks are only for the real fans). I used my 'Relic' PRS DGT and new to me only the day before Eastman SB59, both through a Fractal FM9 to in-ears. The band and the punters all enjoyed the gig tremendously, the pint of San Miguel in the back garden when I got home went down amazingly well...

Saturday was definitely one of our best gigs.

We made quite a few howling mistakes but no one apart from us seemed to notice .

Seem to have a pretty happy crowd too...

On Saturday we played a Social Club in Blackpool.  We took the booking as an 80's night (we're not an 80's band but we had enough material 1978 - 1993 to cover two sets).  As it turned out, 80s night was probably a good description of the average age of the audience.  We threw in some oldies at the end and they kept calling for more.

Well no sound check, PA company who are more used to doing conferences. Stand in bass player had a problem with his Jack socket. We got through it ok.

  • Pub gig last night,  they loved it, reasonable crowd, even had a surprising amount of scantily clad females frolicking around for the last few songs and some crazy dancing from some oldies.  No fights this time. Extremely hot, even the walls were dripping after.   Overall, 8/10.

  • I played two! Charity event in the pub and both bands I’m in played back to back, 10 songs apiece. I wasnt looking forward to that as you finish one and then have to get your head in the place to start again with a different feel but both went really well.

  • Two gigs yesterday. One along side @Fez and the other in the evening at a local festival. The festival is always a great one to play at.

  • First paid gig last friday at a proper gig venue with a real local cult following, supporting another much more established and well-liked covers band. I thought I played like shit, and the band as a whole have played better in the past, but people seemed to enjoy it and we've been invited back to play the main slot in November.
Just so people are aware. I have no idea what any of these words mean.
