    I've long thought that the
"grill em, bake em, fry em, eat them",  was the reverse time-travel inspiration behind :

"Poh-tay-toes, peel em, boil em, skitck em in a stew".
Ten years too late and still getting it wrong

If you're old enough to have cooked any of them yourself when they first came out, then you will most likely also have fancied a shag with the Oxo gravy lady; remembered Jif when it was spelled with a "J" and not a "C"; and Oil of Ulay when it was spelled with a "U" and not an "O".
I was just enjoying my Marathon bar while reading that.

I remeber it well.  I was born in 1976 and remeber it from being a kid, it must have been used for a fair few years.

Now in 2024 the real deal is a mere luxury and we tend to have Aldi Four Seasons imposters lurking in the fridge.  The kids know no better but they don't come close for me.

But I forgive Aldi because of their cheese.

Date is wrong - no wonder so many of us remember it. They weren't introduced until 1981, so no chance this advert is from 1976.
I was misled by a bad bad Man. My apologies for any inconvenience or upset caused.

I went looking for an advert to go with that image and found to my horror that there's a whole website dedicated to the history of fizzy drinks.

Yes. "Waffley versatile" is, I would say, obviously a comical variation of "awfully versatile".

Also I remember that advert despite apparently only being 1 when it was launched.
100% agree with this, even down to the age.
I’m sure it was later than 76 , it’s a very clever wordplay with waffley

You can’t seem to get Maryland cookies with hazelnuts at Tesco any more I think it’s due to the price increase in hazelnuts

I must be very pragmatic, because all I can think about watching this Flake advert is that if it's hot enough for her to be slinking around in that flimsy get-up, then the chocolate would be melting in the packet.

These are all great examples of the power of advertising.

Thanks to a late 80s ad for cheap coffee, we both use the phrase "schmells gut ja?" to the bafflement everyone else.
