Ok…well….I’ve reluctantly decided to put my 2021 Bourgeois OMS Hierloom model up for sale to fund another purchase. As you’re reading this I’m sure you’ve done your research and know the level of these instruments. I pined over them for years before being in a position to get my hands on one. This very special OMS (old style OM with a slotted headstock and 12 frets to the body) is based on a “Country Boy” model so has an amazing wide grain Adirondack top and upgraded with beautifully figured mahogany back and sides. Being “Heirloom” grade means as well as the vintage nod, the highest grade woods are used and protein glue throughout. She also has Bourgeois’ full “aged tone” package upgrade which means it sports their thinner and tinted finish, the top is torrified as is the bracing. This is a huge upgrade and means you don’t need to wait years for that Adirondack to open up and the magic to happen. It also adds to the stability of the guitar. The mahogany neck starts with a “C” shape and then tapers to a super soft & subtle V profile….at least that’s what it feels like to me. The neck isn’t as chunky as a vintage neck but also not a modern slim profile. A real Goldilocks profile! Originally a satin finish but from being played now has a beautiful non sticky sheen to it. The ebony fretboard is insane, jet black and glass like……a thing of beauty in itself and serves to reinforce the quality of the woods used on this guitar. The frets are mint. The slotted headstock with inlaid m.o.p Bourgeois logo and awesome engraved brass Waverly tuners (complete with ebony heads) is exquisitely finished. With the tortoise shell binding, natural purfling, celluloid pick guard and m.o.p dot inlays, she is pure understated elegance. The build quality is typical Bourgeois…..perfection….in 30 odd years of playing and swimming in the sea of guitars the level of craftsmanship is unsurpassed. I guess when a small passionate company only makes 400 guitars a year, this is what you get. The pictures really don’t do her justice. But how does she sound?! Everything you hope the perfect OM/000 style guitar will do this does and then some. The note separation and clarity is almost 3D and has this liquid quality to it…..but at the same time there’s a vintage softness and natural compression when you hit the strings that is nothing short of addictive, sonically and physically. The dynamics are fantastic (as you would expect) and well beyond what a player like me can make the most of. The softer you play the wider she sounds. But start playing harder and she becomes more focused and mid pushed. You really can go from an intimate lead/ finger style type sound to an authentic flat picker/strummer just by altering your right hand. It can be sweet or growl. Quiet or loud and the sustain will make you giggle while it sits there vibrating. And being a 12 fret she is LOUD with minimal effort. This I’m sure is the pay off of Dana Bourgeois hand voicing every guitar they make. You can watch demos online of him shaping and shaving down the braces the perfect amount for each top after assessing its rigidity….it’s damn cool and makes every one of their instruments have a truly individual voice. It even smells amazing when you open the case! Which anyone will tell you is essential! Haha! It’s genuinely been a battle coming to the conclusion to let her go…..I’m always seduced by OM/000s but I grew up with Dreds and the ergonomics and voice of a Dred is just ingrained in me. They’re not as comfortable, intimate or versatile but familiar to me and just feel right. I’m probably mad. I wish keeping her was an option (as guitars like this are few and far between) but I’ve purchased a Bourgeois Sloped Dread and one has to help fund the other. Condition wise she’s pretty immaculate barre the very common odd tiny mark to the lacquer inside of the headstock slots, caused by string ends making contact during changing (see photos). That’s the only give away it’s been played really and certainly not noticeable but trying to be as descriptive as possible. Super rare for this level and style of Bourgeois to come up in the UK and especially secondhand. New retail on this model/spec is £6.5-7k now so priced reasonably. She is truly magical and I’m sure the right players end game guitar. If you’re searching for the perfect 12 fret 000, congratulations you’ve found it! A stunning, stunning instrument.

It seems that the used guitar market is quite depressed at the moment when you see the number advertised and not selling. Perhaps it's a pre christmas or end of year affect and you will get a better response soon.
