How to talk to the band and hear click track?

For jam bands, how would you enable the musos to talk to each other mid track on a congested and loud stage, and maybe also hear a click track?  Probably using headsets, but what would connect them together?

Assume there is already a pa for monitoring and front of house.

  • This is a situation for IEMs. There's really no other way to do click tracks. For vocals you'd set up a talkback mic that isn't mixed to FoH allowing the band leader to direct as appropriate - you often have to crank that up quite loud to hear spoken direction so a nice setup will include a mute footswitch for the band leader so there isn't constant stage bleed from the TB mic.

  • I can't imagine a click track is going to work that well for a jam band tbh. I know for us we typically jam off click then once we piece stuff together into a song nail it down.

Hand signals are pretty commonly used for signaling stuff… is there a band leader?

Agree a few signs for speed up, slow down, repeats, bridge, free solo, end… etc.
