This Saturday, I'm playing in my very first band at the annual celebration of departed guitarist friend with 8 acts on throughout the afternoon and evening. Going out once a year suits me just fine.
However, my old band's bassist couldn't make it so I've been called up to deputise which is a bit intimidating as they gig every week and I'm very much an outsider nowadays.
Then to cap it all, the Ukulele band that I used to do a bit of bass for, also called me up as long lost reserve. So it's very much going to be a case of "is that fat gobshite never off the fecking stage". I hope no one I know is reading this because the Ukulele set list is a lot more exciting than the proper bands. Crash (Primitives), Sit Down, Friday I'm in Love, Teenage Kicks etc.
Very, very anxious but looking forward to it as well as it's just for the enjoyment, no hustling for gigs, no grotty pub etc.
As I've mentioned, many times, I'm a rudimentary player (no false modesty, really) but I am tickled pink that after a year on the bench, I'm viewed as a safe pair of hands by people I respect.
All the best,
They don't want your name, they just want your number.
