I want to create ambient pads
Two of the instruments mentioned in your thread title are mono- or, at best, duo-phonic. Even the Crave is probably best suited to arpeggio-based Electronic music.

Pad sounds usually require a high enough polyphony count that, no matter how complex your chord choices, there is no voice stealing.

You will have to spend an insane amount of money on a hardware synth before you will find a synth that will get you to something a VST like Dune 3 can achieve:

I’ve had my eye on a few of the Behringers last few weeks but yeah that Grind really looks (and sounds) great.

I might just end up buying all of them s/h, connecting them to my Keystep and then selling the ones that appeal to me the least.

I have a Behringer Model D and its (ie. Moog's) left-right layout really makes sense; my only regret is that they didn't bring out the one with integral keyboard beforehand, so I had to buy several MIDI controllers to try and get what I wanted and still haven't quite got it right.

I have an old Roland SH-32, which I bought because someone had a Tom Sawyer patch for it; it gets a play every few years.

I've also got a Moog Minitaur which is quite good, but I sort of prefer my Behringer El Toro (again I'm wondering if they'll do the dirty and release one including pedals!).

    This might interest older Fretboarders.
