Lovely, rare Japanese Matano Clase 600 short scale guitar. Beautiful warm sound and easy playability. Upgraded Der Jung tuners, strung with low tension Savarez strings. Comes with (I think) original hardcase which works well and is in good condition. Guitar is overall in very good condition for its age – the usual marks on the soundboard that you would expect for a nearly 50 year old guitar, but structurally all is good and fretboard and frets are in good condition. A reluctant sale as the guitar has served me very well over the years, but I am mainly playing lute now. A fine guitar at a reasonable price. Comes with Hagi guitar support (cost £80).
Ideally collection but UK based postage could be arranged. Not prepared to ship internationally after bad courier experience.

  • Lovely, old classical guitar and in great condition for its age. Please forgive my ignorance, could you explain to me what double plating is? Is this to improve the performance of the guitar?

Thanks and no problem at all. The Japanese makers in the 1970’s used to use double plating to strengthen the back and sides for exporting guitars. Essentially it’s glueing two pieces of high quality solid wood together to add stability. Not to be confused with laminating, as this was highly skilled using high quality woods and had nothing to do with cost saving. These 1970’s Japanese luthiers are renowned for their skill and craftsmanship and the guitars from this period are generally of a very standard.
