SORTED-I cannot physically get my monitors equilateral

I'm in the process of setting up my music space. Keys play through my Adams TV7s.

The room is maybe 4x5m. It's shared as a playroom so I have to be thoughtful.

I have broadly 2 options for wall mounting the monitors

1) directly opposite where I sit, 3m away, only about 1.5m apart making a narrow based isoscele triangle.
2) Left directly opposite 3m away (as above) and Right on the same wall the other side of the window 4m away from the left.

Any ideas which will be better? I can mix the signal to favour the R so it's at least equal volume.

Any advice or experience gratefully listened to

If we had a sketch of the room, the door(s) and window(s) and whatever else it would be easier to visualise the room and your two options.

If you find you cannot reasonably set up your gear, don't forget that it is possible to face 45 degrees into a corner, from where you may be able to create an equilateral or isosceles triangle. You really want to avoid a scalene triangle where you will be wanting to mix off-centre. With a corner setup you may find that, because you want to wall-mount your monitors, that the speakers will not be so far away from you, after all, the Adam TV7 is a nearfield monitor.

    1. Opposite where you sit.

Why 3m away? 1.5 spacing is plenty, sit closer or space them a metre apart.

A triangle is a guideline. When centred correctly for example a vocal should sound present, full and not "stretched too thin" (monitors too wide) while still having a sense of a stereo field and that distant L R panned objects are also able to be heard and not small.

My personal favourite listening position with my kh120s is a bit like this!

On Imgur I control-click on the image (on my Mac), copy image address and post that here in the attach image option. On Windows I think control-click is a right-click.

@Winny_Pooh and @Whistler I've posted the link to Imgur. Winny_Pooh the constraints of the room prevent me from doing what you sensibly suggest

Thank you. Sorry to ask but how did you do that? I've read the sticky in Help, followed it to the letter...

Move the bed down and the desk up to the top.
Desk in the middle is not a good use of space IMO

Here is what that looks like:

The URL which is now on your clipboard you should paste into the image URL box:

You know you have the right URL when it starts with i.imgur, like this (without the inserted space):

In an ideal scenario, the best option would look like this, with your desk and chair (actually, your ears) in the centre of the room (left to right, wherever you sit) so that the stereo image will be correct and with you facing one of the short walls - fitted cupboards sort of rules out the right hand wall but they would be ideal for bass traps (later on).

An alternative is to centre yourself on a long wall.

Your challenge is to work out which one is going to be the easiest for you and other users of the room.

Don't forget, the tweeters on the Adam TV7 speakers should be at ear height.

If you can budget £100-£150 for a decent pair of studio headphones, that will be useful, too.

Thanks so much for the pic help and the room layout help. I'll give it some thought.

I have to take as little space from the middle as it is primarily a playroom for the little one so my original question stands...of the two wall mounting scenarios I wonder which one will be the least bad. I want to get the speakers off the tip=able stands hence the need to wall mount them,

If you face the left hand wall then the speakers have a wall for mounting, not a window as in the other option.

The chair is movable so could be shoved anywhere while the children play. The sofa bed is your problem, not mine, so find a way to keep it out of the children's way (eg. will it fit upright in the fitted cupboard?), on its side or end against a wall with hooks in the wall and a strap to avoid it accidentally falling over onto the children, or make it a central feature of the play area, like a playground slide or swings would be.

Thats really helpful. I'll look at facing the left wall and moving the sofa bed. Thank you again.

I'm still keen to understand whether two speakers the same distance away but (too) close together is better than 2 speakers further apart but one being at least 50% further away.

Adam TV7s are nearfield monitors, so you can be closer to them. Don't worry. An equilateral triangle will be far better than having the speakers farther apart and different distances from you. Read @Winny_Pooh 's first post again and try to better understand what he said - and showed with his diagram.
